| WELCOME The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has been located on the corner of Alden Avenue and Patterson Street since 1956, but our roots run much deeper. Since 1840, the people of God who call themselves the First Christian Church have been worshiping and serving God in the Valdosta, Georgia area. As a part of our unique Christian witness, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper weekly and invite everyone to participate—no one is turned away. We have no set statement of faith, but simply proclaim “no creed but Christ.” We encourage people to seek God for themselves through thoughtful action and active thinking, while sharing in the bonds of a loving community of faith. We consider ourselves to be Christians only, but not the only Christians in the world. We are the church with the red doors, which open wide enough for all who would enter, but stand strong enough to endure the travails of this world. We hope you will join us. How to join. . . We invite people to become members by coming forward at the end of worship and sharing the decision with the pastor and congregation. We baptize new Christian by immersion, following a simple confession that "Jesus Christ is Lord." Some people decide to join as "Associate Members" in order to keep dual membership with a home church elsewhere. We offer classes on the beliefs and practices of our church at regular intervals. We invite you to consider becoming part of our church community which seeks to worship God, teach the gospel, deepen fellowship and serve our community with faith, hope and love. |
